Green Paper Mill

Over the years, Smurfit Kappa Roermond Papier developed into a large and solid company, with a reputation for reliability, a partner that customers can trust. As a company we are conscious of our responsibilities in terms of high-quality deliveries, consistent excellent product quality, as well as maintaining and preserving proper environmental and human living conditions.

In addition to paper for the corrugated board industry, Smurfit Kappa Roermond Papier produces approximately 15,000 tons of Rofire® pellets from combustible components that are unsuitable for use in the actual paper production process.

Smurfit Kappa Roermond Papier was the first papermill with an anaerobic and aerobic water treatment plant. Meanwhile the capacity of the purification plant has been enlarged, enabling the mill to re-use virtually all the water and in the future eliminating the intake of surface water.

Over the years the increasingly tight closure of the mill's water circuit is contributing to the saving of energy.

The use of the methane gas that is being released in the water purification process also contributes to energy saving, supplying 5% of the total steam production.

With its own combined heat and power plant Smurfit Kappa Roermond Papier generates the energy needed for paper production at a total heat efficiency of 89%.
